Miss Selfridge x Gossip Girl Collection

It was announced a while ago that UK retailler Miss Selfridge ( the cheaper,party girl sister of the legendary Topshop) was teaming up with the people over at Gossip Girl HQ to create a set of looks inspired by the outfits sported by Blair,Serena,Jenny and Rat Tail Hair-Sorry *Vanessa* in the show.

I was uber excited because I'm a (not too) closet Gossip Girl fanatic. Sure the books are better...but Chuck's also gay in the books and we wouldn't have Ed Westwick otherwise.....

Anyway... it launched online this morning and I have to say I'm still on the fence about it. Here's a sample of what they served up:

Review: Lush Creme Anglaise Body & Hand Cream

The best thing about this is the smell! It is described as Vanilla and Almond but I could mostly just smell vanilla (which I love anyway!).It is very very sweet so if you like more spicy smells this isn't for you!

It is a very rich,creamy formula which rubs in easily. It isn't greasy but personally I wouldn't use it on my face.

I love the little "made by" stickers! Thanks Iko! :)

It is a little expensive at £25 (I think) but it's well worth it and makes a nice change from my usual Coco butter!

Overall- 10/10

Remington GENIUS hair straighteners.

I've been looking for a new straightener for a while. Ideally I would heart a pair of GHD's but money doesn't grow on trees! So.... I saw these Remington Genius straighteners for 50% off in Argos and had to grab them! They heat in 15 seconds,have adjustable temperature control up to 230c and floating ceramic plates.

They are pretty small and the LCD display temperature control is just what I need because I need to stop frying my hair. It also has a lockable function so they don't flip open when you put them on a flat surface.
It also came with a cool storage bag to put them in when you are on the go,which is super useful for me because my last straighteners died because someone trod on them!
I tried them on my sister who has really coarse hair and it usually takes her FOREVER to straighten it and even then it's not really poker straight. (haha do you think my sister's "nightie chic" look will catch on?!)

BEFORE

Halfway through and it was dead straight. It got hot sooo quickly and didn't lose heat. I did burn my fingers a few times too!

AFTER

I'm not sure how long the offer will last the RRP is £69.99 I think!

topshop boots and MAC Spring Colour Forecast haul

I've been trying to cut back on shopping for stuff I don't need. But no ones perfect,rigghhhtttt?!!!

I picked up Siss lipstick. I've heard it's a really pretty nude for people with tanned or brown skin.It's a gold beigey colour with a satin finish and seems to be in the same family as Fresh Brew.

My beautttifulll boots from Topshop! Brogue boots with lace panels. I lovvee themmm. They only had size 8's left though,so I feel a bit like Bigfoot clomping around in them!

save the best until last: Spring Colour Forecast Blush Ombre ( pronounced OM-BRAY??) in Ripe Peach. This is the best one out of all the four in my opinion.I quite liked the pink Azalea Blossom but not for my skintone.

Review: Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express

This is Maybelline's newest addition to their Volum' Express range. I had Volum' Collossal and loved it,so I decided to give this a try. I used ot have really thick eyelashes and as the years have gone by ( and my mascara usage as gone up) my eyelashes are just a bit rubbish really. I've started using eyelash serum Latisse before I go to bed,so hopefully in a few months my eyelashes will be wow again.

What it promises:

"Instant false glam in a tube.The Falsies Mascara delivers a false lash look; giving you a full set of voluminous, bold, fanned out lashes and the appearance of no gaps from any angle."

The special thing about this mascara is the curved "spoon" brush which allows the mascara to coat all your eyelashes even the tiny ones in the corner which are always the hardest for me to get!
It also promises no clumps- which I was a little sceptical about because all mascaras promise that and very few rarely deliver.

My Verdict

4 out of 5.

I like the packaging and I really love the curved brush which really does get *all* the lashes.It did a decent job of separating my lashes and I was impressed that I,personally, didn't get any clumps even with *four* coats of mascara. (Maybe this is why I don't have any blimming eyelashes left! lol) Overall,I think it's a decent mascara especially for people who want a pretty,fanned out lashes. I don't think a mascara will ever comapare to a massive set of false eyelashes but this is still very good. Only downside is that it is not waterproof.

I have to admit these pics look pretty cool. They're shot by the legendary Mario Testino, so obviously they are pretty damn cool. Response on the blogosphere has been mixed: It's either love the clothes,hate "the face" or the other way round.

I can't say anything bad about Emma Watson's looks and I *do* love the outfits- (the trench with the puffed shoulders= LOVVEEE) buttt... I do have major beef with the *colours*. I know that nudes and dolly pastels are going to be BIGGGG this season but *lilac*? Lilac?! Really?!

It's nearly that time of year again!
Christmas is a time of sharing and caring, togetherness and bonding with your dearly loved ones in rememberance of little baby Jesus... it's also a time when you can demand all the goodies you wanted over the year that you coldn't be bothered to save up for... and if you beg hard enough you will find a few of them under the tree come Christmas morning. :)

Here's my hit list:

1. beach waves like zoe kravitz- I always try and they never turn out right :(
2. A shiny new laptop. A "friend" broke mine. >:(

4. a sewing machine. I have 3 sewing machines but somehow think a new one will help me sew better (at all?)

wow it's been a while since I've done a haul post.I went on a little bit of a nail polish spree last week and my goodies came in the post today!
I got 8 polishes in total for a very reasonble 40 quid! I'm really into vampy reds and purples on my nails at the moment too!

I'm not going to rock in on my toes,because it might look like I have some crazy nail fungus or something. Not cool. lol
And my next love is Russian Navy- I lost it in Manchester the second time I wore it and spent ages trying to find a dupe for it- Barry M, Models Own... but it wasn't the same! Any other cool nails colours I should try?

Okay..so I'm having a teeny tiny blog sale. I have a teeny tiny problem..with buying nail polish...I don't even have long nails but if I see a colour that I like I just *have* to have it! I have a little fetish for chunky black lace up boots atm. I've seen a few pricey ones by Chloe and Miu Miu buuttt there are cheaper alternatives for us that are less financially blessed. I lovee these boots so much because they are perfect for people like me who can't walk in high heels to save their life-the chunky heel seems to counteract that perfectly! I already have the brown ones from Primark (£18!!!) so I'm on my way to pick one of these beauties up!

The amazing WAH nails opened a pop up salon in Selfridges,last week. I booked an appointment for the first day! The girl next to me was getting pearls and diamonds put on her nails- they looked sooo cool!
I got Minx nails-which are basically printed panels that are applied with heat to your nails. They last up to two weeks and don't chip. They've been seen on the likes of Katy Perry,Beyonce,Kerri Hilson and Lady Gaga!

My top S/S 10 makeup looks

Here are some of my most anticipated and admired looks for S/S '10!

Purple

We saw it on the F/W 09 catwalks of Dior with frosty lilac and mid-berry toned shadow and it's trailed all the way through to next season. As seen on the gorge Miss Donaldson at Versace. Now its a lighter,less intense wash of lilac along the eyelid and along the waterline.Teamed with a pink,nudish lip this look is perfect for a lazy picnic in the park and a pastel sundress! I loveee purple because it makes brown and green eyes really POP!
(did anyone actually do that "half-moon" manicure,that everyone was raving on about? I wasn't too keen,it looks so weird to me!)

Glossy Gothic

I'll always be a big fan of the smoky eye. It always looks stylish and effortless sexy. This look just screams "I've been rolling around with a boy all night,and I'm doing the walk of shame but hey,at least I put on some lip gloss!". And I think Lanvin pulled this look off to a tee!

To do the blackest of black smokey eye I swear by MAC in Carbon ( of course!) and Urban Decay Glide on 24 in Zero

The Bold and the Beautiful

I lovelovelove LOVE this look! The mussed up hair,the airbrushed skin but ESPECIALLY the bold,matte lips!Black cat eyeliner and red lips has been done to death and this is a refreshing change. I like this orange red colour soo much! I'm a bit scared of matte lipstick because it can make your lips look really chapped and dry but I'm definitely going to give this a try! Prada ftw!

Bare Faced Chic

I've always heard that it takes a lot of makeup to look like you don't have a lot of make-up on- that is sooo true! When I try to do the whole "I only wear tinted moisturiser and Vaseline" look, I just look terrible! This look is amazing because I wish I could ever look as fresh faced and dewy as this!

The "Ken dumped me!"

I decided to call this the "he dumped me!" look because I was looking through the John Galliano show pictures with my sis and she said that she thought this look was what Barbie would look like if she caught Ken cheating on her with Sindy! Obvs, I thought that was hilarious! I can see her point, the dolly pink cheeks are very Barbie-esque!This look was also done by the legendary Pat McGrath! This tempts me to pull my MAC Dollymix or Nars Orgasm out and try and give pink cheeks a go again.

Review: African Black Soap and Dark&Lovely Deep Repair Cream

My skin has been going out of control lately. I have always had fairly "normal" skin but recently have noticed it being majorly oily and I have a few dark marks from previous spots :(
I was perusing Specktra and saw a recommendation for African Black Soap that they were selling on Coastal Scents. So I was in a black Hair and Beauty store today and decided to pick this up:

DuDu-Osun Black Soap.

My sister and I spent a while laughing at the name but people are swearing by this stuff so I thought I would give it a try.
It looks like this:

What it does:

This is a traditional African Black soap made in Nigeria. It is made with pure natural ingredients and herbs with no artificial colours or preservatives.
It cleanses,nourishes and protects your skin while leaving your skin feeling soft and fresh.

Ingredients:

Pure Honey
Shea Butter
Osun (camwood)
Palmkernel Oil
Cocoa Pod Ash
Palm Bunch ash
Glycerine
Aloe Vera
Lime & Lemon juice and oil
Water

My verdict

I used this yesterday and at first I HATED IT! It made my skin feel...squeaky? But when I dried off my face,my skin felt baby soft. I was seriously impressed.A few others had said they had stopped using it because of the smell but I think it smells quite nice and a nice change from other over perfumed soaps.
My skin felt a little tight afterwards and it's recommended that you follow up your cleaning routine with some unrefined shea butter but I feel that any rich moisturiser will do. I find shea butter way too greasy for daytime use. I'm going to keep on using it and see how it goes!

Next I got:

Dark&Lovely Body- Deep Repair extra rich cocoa butter.

I suffer from really dry,cracked skin in the winter and with the cold season fast approaching I was looking for something that would really hold up this season.

What it does:

My Verdict:

I got this as first as a tester in a magazine and I was instantly HOOKED BY THE SMELL! I put some on my hands and my best friend said I smelt like chocolate milkshake topped with cream! haha. It really smells that amazing,I literally wanted to eat it! I've never tried the Dark&Lovely Body range before and was happy to find it really did offer 24 hour relief from dry skin and wasn't sticky and absorbed into my skin really quickly. Added bonus you get a HUGE 400mls for £3.39! I'll definitely be stocking up on this one in the next few months.

My sister also bought me the infamous GOSH Darling. Somehow I thought it would be like MAC's Fresh Brew (horrible in the tube-divine on) but I was horribly mistaken. It literally makes me look like a corpse. There a quite a few available at my nearest Superdrug so if anyone wants one let me know,I'll be more than happy to post one over.

Has anyone else had one of those- " I soooo thought it would look good but it soooo doesn't" moments? (I thought blue eyeshadow was the sh*t when I was about 11. CRINGE!)

Autumn Must Haves!

Autumn is my favourite season, Summer is way too hot and I'm not a big fan of heat.Heat= Less clothes. Winter is too cold. Cold= chapped lips,colds and red noses. Not cool. I think Autumn is the perfect medium. You can layer and still stomp around in heeled boots without being afraid of skidding and breaking your neck on some ice.
I've been trying to cut back on the shopping and trying to study a bit more. ( I'm in my final year at college- Eek!)But a girl can still dream! Here's my Autumn must haves!:

A dark vampy red nail colour. Nails Inc "Victoria" is awesome. I've been wearing it everyday for weeks.

"Henry" lace up boots from Schuh. Terrible picture. Hot boots. I'm so tempted to get these!

Red flannel mini from Topshop. Something about the colour red always makes me go "yum". I don't know why?!

DIY Project- Knitted Gold Bead Jumper

Recently I have been getting a little bit sick with retailers and their ever-increasing prices. I know it's the recession and all but STILL...

It got me thinking,that alot of the stuff that consumers buy-we are paying for the name sewn onto the label rather than the time and skill that has gone into creating the garment.Which is why alot of the time a waistcoat you buy for 30 quid falls to bits 2 days later (cough H&M cough).
I made a batch of emo-ish polkadot bow headbands and clips for my little sister the other day and have decided to move onto something more ambitious!

Haul- Payday edition

So last Friday was PAYYDDAAYYYYY! woo! SO needless to say I went shopping! And managed to control myself! I'm so proud of myself!
( Warning in advance,my digital camera has gone to camera heaven so I'm using my the camera on my phone so the pics are a little crapola! Sowwie! )

I had my eye on these H&M boots for a few weeks. I've been "blessed" short and stubby legs so have decided to try and wear more heels to stop me from looking like a squat little blahhhh! I love them because they have a nice chunky heel so although they are pretty high (for me!) they should be easier to walk in.Another reason I loved them was because they are lace ups which are hothothot for autumn/winter '09/10 and the peep toe just sold me completely!

So... I wore them out on Friday night with jeggings and a baggy t-shirt and got LOADDSSSS of compliments until... my feet started to bleed! Yeah they look hot but they hurt my toes like a mofo! Next time I'll take some plasters and ibuprofen before I wear them!

I also picked up this "Rebel without a cause" tee from Hennes too. I know James Dean died wayyy before most of us were born,but he was a hottie,non?

Then I hit Marble Arch Primark. ( it was early,thank god. That place turns into a zoo past 12 o'clock!) And I got this zebra print bracelet. I also got a plain set of gold and silver bangles too but they aren't coming out very well on camera.

Last stop was Boots! I got the L'oreal Studio Secrets Primer after I tried the sample in last months Elle magazine and was majorly impressed. It makes your make-up go on silky smooth and really irons out any pores or lines you ma have on your face.
I also got Maybelline Liquid Define Liner in Black. This is MAGIC for me! I'm so rubbish at doing really nice flicks when I do my eyeliner and this makes it super easy. The end looks like a felt tip and it is firm so you can swipe it on with no mistakes.

Haul- Topshop Edition

I have a huggee love/hate relationship with Topshop. It's love because they constantly come up with relatively inexpensive stuff that is bang on trend then it's hate because I pretty much end up giving all my wages back to my employer every month! I have a major beef with the jewelery though..it looks so cute at first but then tends to go green or black or just generally fall apart which put me off for a longgg while. But I decided to venture back recently and saw alot of stuff that I liked and will be picking up on pay day!

Anywhooo I'm going to a "Chavs and Rahs" party next weekend. I was going to go as a Rah but I don't think I can pull off the whole "Daddy owns a bank" look. I do like Jack Wills and Abercrombie but..ugh no I couldn't do it... So I'm going as council estate scumbag instead! (I'm not saying that council estate people are scumbags. I'm just going as one!)
I picked these up yesterday at Topshop and thought they were chav-tastic enough for the party!

Review: Barry M Nail Paint- Pink Flamingo

First of all I think this polish should be called Pink Panther because that's what I thought as soon a I saw it! haha
I picked this up at work yesterday and have been painting on coats and coats since I got it home,it's gorgeous!

Pink Flamingo is a perfect summer colour and is a refreshing change to the sea of coral polish that has been doing the rounds recently. I love coral as much as the next girl but you need to switch it up sometimes,right?

Overall it's a lovely bright creamy pink.The application of Barry M polishes are notoriously good for the price and this was no exception. I put on 3 coats to get the bottle colour but I wanted but it would have been perfectly fine with 2. Get yours now at Superdrug or Boots or www.barrym.com

Review: Illamasqua Intense Gloss

Over the past few months I have been hearing nothing but good things about new make up brand Illamasqua.I've seen reviews by lollipop26 and richie nickel on youtube and the word on the street is that Illamasqua's whole line of products are scorching hot.
I seriously think this may finally be the brand to give the almighty MAC a run for their money!

A few weeks back on my way to the MAC counter in Selfridges I decided to bite the bullet and give them a try. I was the most interested in their lipglosses because I'd heard they are super vibrant and long lasting. I always browse a counter first before I approach a sales rep just because I don't want to be like " errr I want that one!" *points finger*.
I did explain numerous times that I tend to stick to neutral glosses (because I'm a wimpy wimp lol) but some how I managed to leave with this:

And I lovveeee it! I was reluctant at first but then one swatch on my hand and I was like HOLYMAJOLY! This gloss does not mess about and certainly lives up to it's name! It is pigmented and intensely packed with colour.
Perform is a bright coral pink orange and a tiny dab gives a gorgeous sheer wash of colour. Layering is key. I got over excited and slicked it on as I would normal gloss and was left looking clownish with big orange lips! Add you can add as little then build from there for a more dramatic look.

I was verryy daunted by the colour in the tube but it goes on so beautifully I couldn't resist. It is non-sticky and smells sort of fruity,a bit like sweets. Another added bonus is that it is long lasting. I applied this at 7am on my way to work and my lips still had a pretty pink tinge at 1pm!

Over all I think this is going to be a staple in my make-up bag for the next couple of weeks because it's sooo pretty. I also might get another one in their Sheer Lipgloss range which seem to be a neutral palette.

Anyone else tried anything from Illamasqua? I've heard their cream blushers are quite awesome too...

The legendary make up artist Pat McGrath came into work today. Of course I wanted to go up to her and tell her what an inspiration she is, and has been to all the girls and guys out there who are absolutley and passionatley in love with make-up and cosmetics. I wanted to ask her about all the tips and tricks of the trade...advice on making it in the industry...
Of course I couldn't.
So I just stared at her kind of stalker-ish. But I don't care it was worth it! Her make up was very natural ( if she had any on at all) and her skin was FLAWLESS! Such a massive inspiration!

Mini Nail Polish Haul

Friday was pay day so I got a new nail colour to add to my already excessive nail varnish collection! I have a slightly dangerous obsession which I really need to stop. I went to the Barry M concession in Topshop Oxford Circus and got this amazing pink. It's called "Marshmallow Pink" but to me it's more of a sort of cool toned peach.

(sorry for the worst manicure in the world,I was in a rush on my way to work!)

I absolutley love the colour! I didn't think it would go to well with my skintone because pastels rarely do,but I think it's a nice change from my neons! The colour pay-off is pretty true to the bottle but for me personally it took me about four coats for it to be truly opaque.

Then I picked up my HG of top-coats "Sally Hansen Mirror Shine". It dries supersuper fast which is good for someone like me who screams "EFF IT IT'S SMUDGED!" every time I paint my nails because I'm too imapatient to wait for it to dry!

That's all for now because I've just got back from work and am majorrr tired!

The East End Thrift Store

is amazing.
I am so sick of “vintage” stores selling over-price, badly cared for tat.
The final straw came when I was in a rather well know vintage store(which will remain un-named) on Brick Lane and I came across a dress that I knew point blank to have come from Primark. They were trying to pass it off(minus the labels) as some unique old-school gem and were asking for £35 for it when I knew damn well it was £10 brand spanking new.

I was so appalled that I decided then and there to stop shopping vintage. After all who can be bothered to scrabble through the rails and rails searching for that elusive “hidden gem” in some musty vintage shop when you can be ushered into the shiny, gleaming carbon-copy fashion mecca that is Topshop?

But TEETS changed all that. They have heaps of cool, cool garms mostly for under a tenner. What more could a student want? So I’m not fully converted back to my old thrift shopping ways, after all I do really want a few bits from River Island.... American Apparel and Zara....

*sigh*
Anyways... they’re on Facebook too (who isn’t now days?) so give them a FR and keep up to date with banging in-store parties and other chummy goodness like that,(plus it adds to your friends count!)
